Katherine Cook joined KGW as a general assignment reporter in 2007. As a native Oregonian, she's passionate about her community and telling the stories of those who live in it.
Katherine is a two-time Emmy winning journalist. In 2022 she was honored with an Emmy for Best Reporter by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Northwest Chapter. She is also a two-time regional Edward R. Murrow Award winner, earning Excellence in Writing honors in 2023. Katherine is a Western Regional Associated Press Mark Twain Award winner for feature reporting and has earned more than a dozen Emmy nominations for news writing, sports reporting and an investigative series on Portland gangs, guns and prostitution.
The Oregonian listed Katherine as one of Portland’s Most Memorable Media Stars of All Time.
Katherine began her television news career in Southern Oregon as the Klamath Falls Bureau Chief and weekend anchor for KDRV (ABC) in Medford. Next, she spent two years reporting at KKTV (CBS) in Colorado Springs, CO. Between blizzards and mountain rescues, she reported on issues relevant to the region's extensive military community.
Katherine grew up in Portland and graduated from Reynolds High School. She attended Mt. Hood Community College and Western Oregon University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication. She also ran track for the Wolves.
Giving back to her community is important to Katherine. She emcees local fundraisers, volunteers at her church and won a charitable dance competition with her performance of the Tango.
In her free time, Katherine enjoys running, painting, gardening and playing the violin. An avid sports fan, Katherine cheers for the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Dodgers. She's also a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
